The Collection of Ruth and David Waterbury: Conversations with Wood has recently been added to our book collection as a "Reference Only" item (i.e. while members are encouraged to peruse the book while attending meetings, it is not available for borrowing).

This handsome 256 page volume is a compilation of works in wood on exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Art this summer. The exhibition included approximately 80 pieces of wood art, representing the changing approaches to the medium during the past twenty-five years, from simple turned vessels to sculpted and constructed works. WGNC's very own V.P., Chris Boerner, is one of the featured artists in this book, so you most definitely won't want to miss this one!

This is Jim Duxbury's comprehensive video detailing each step in the construction of his award winning Traditional Kaleidoscope. In addition to sharing the creation process with the viewer, a history of kaleidoscopes as well as a gallery is included. If you've ever wondered just how these intriguing, viewable objects are made or are contemplating building one, this video is for you.

The WGNC library has a number of DVDs published by AAW which were recorded at National Symposiums. They feature renowned turners, as listed on the jacket of each video. These DVDs are well worth your viewing time, so consider giving them a look. Below is a listing of AAW Symposium video titles in our library with the years available:

Instant Gallery & Critique: Years 2001, 2002, 2007-2010

Another AAW DVD available in our library is Woodturning: Fundamentals of Sharpening. This is an instructional video featuring Bonnie Klein, John Jordan, Bill Johnston, and Alan Lacer, sharing personal views and techniques in individual and easy to follow presentations.
